About Us

What's our story?

Our history began really simply, in Georgia...

Where is Georgia? Well, it is where the oldest wines of history originate from presumably and where one of the the first christian states had been established. Despite Georgia’s troubled history, it is one of the gems of the Caucasus Mountains and we, the Hungarians are not aliens for her inhabitants, the Georgians. The Georgians consider the Hungarians as their relatives or as a people with a similar history. The basis for this is the legend of the eighth Hungarian tribe that may have been lost in the Caucasus and this legend might be known by more people in Georgia than in Hungary. The feeling of the similar fate is fed by that Georgia suffered mostly from the same conquerors and oppressors in her troubled history as our homeland.

Bondo Kantaria, the director and owner of the Aragvi Georgian Restaurant came from Tbilisi to Hungary under the aegis of Georgian-Hungarian friendship, as the delegate of the Georgian State almost thirty years ago. His manifest aim was to make known and popularize his homeland’s traditional flavors that are unknown for us, though. His previous experiences and passion for the culinary art and catering brought the Aragvi Georgian Restaurant into being in Ürömi Alley in the second district of Budapest.

Bondo Kantaria

Restaurant Owner and Manager

I came from Tbilisi to Budapest in 1989 with the aim of making Georgian culinary art and culture known by people living in Hungary. In the Aragvi Restaurant you can try excellent dishes from the Caucasus prepared to you by our Georgian restaurant staff. In our restaurant, you can taste the best vines and the deservedly famous mineral waters and refreshments, brought directly from Georgia.

I was very happy when Bondo invited me to come to Hungary, to work in his restaurant. It was interesting to me to have the opportunity to get acquainted with another country and culture. It is a challenge to me that I can present my homeland’s tastes, I can pass my knowledge and experiences. It is a fantastic feeling that I can enrich the list of your favorite comestibles with new dishes and flavors.

Waiter

I arrived from Serbia to Budapest a few years ago and I was happy in my waiter role to join the team of the Aragvi Georgian Restaurant. When I work, I meet really many people every day. I take my tasks seriously, I fulfill happily and willingly the requests of the visitors coming to us. There is no better feeling than when the guest thanks satisfied for the dishes offered or served by me.
